Cliffs above Guitar Lake
This picture is the embodiment of the sheer grandeur of the Sierras. These are not friendly cliffs. They are great challenges for climbers, but they are not something the ordinary hiker can breach. One of the tough things about the John Muir Trail is passing all these beautiful lakes and not being able to spend a night. There is always another pass that must be crossed before nightfall. Rosary Lakes
Rosary Lakes consist of three lakes, the prettiest of which is Middle Rosary. An easy uphill climb from Willamette Pass gets you to this location. Be forewarned that if you are here in July, you will be enjoyed by mosquitoes. Carry a mosquito net to protect your head, and repellant to keep them off your clothes and exposed skin.

Mosquito Preparation
Hiking the PCT in July requires mosquito preparation. Head netting saves a lot of swatting and distraction. I also recommend rubbing a little repellant on the netting as well, and certainly on a long sleeve shirt as well. That keeps these critters from even landing.
